Beginning Trick #2: The Spinner

  1. Hold the spinning top upside-down in your hand with the point toward the ceiling.
  2. Place the string between your first two fingers with the anchor button on the back side of your hand [picture].
  3. When spinning the top, it is important to hold the string and button firmly in your hand. Do not let them slip out! [picture]
  4. Hold the spinning top in your hand at waist level.
  5. Move your hand back and gently throw the spinning top toward the floor.

Did it work? You probably learned something didn't you? Sometimes the spinning top doesn't spin the way we expect it to the very first time. That's okay. With a little more practice you'll be spinning your top like a champion!

It's a good time to go back through the information you've learned so far. You might want to take a few minutes and read the winding and throwing instructions again. With a little practice, your spinning top will be spinning and you'll be ready to go on to the next section.

Now that you have accomplished The Spinner, it's time to go on to other tricks. Sometimes it is easy to jump to the end of the book and try the really tough tricks right away. Keep in mind that as you progress through this book you will learn the skills you need to do those tricks. Make sure you take it easy and learn each trick well before you go on to other more difficult tricks. You will have much more fun and less frustration when you can do each trick well.
