Basic Trick #1: Target Shoot

Let's build on the skill you learned from earlier tricks so you can see that each step along the way is important. Remember the things you already learned as you practice this trick.

Wind the top like you learned in Basic Trick #1: Winding The Top. Throw the spinning top as you learned in Beginning Trick #2: The Spinner Make sure you can throw your spinning top and make it spin on the floor.

Now, use string to mark a target on the floor. The target should be twelve inches around. Spin your spinning top inside the target. If you get really good at this trick, it will be possible to hit targets much smaller than twelve inches. If you are outside, you might use sidewalk chalk to mark your target. You might consider a specially made Top Spinning Target from the catalog at the back of this book to practice with. The Top Spinning Target looks like a bullseye with a twelve inch outer circle and six inch inner ring. I will describe another trick in a minute that uses the Top Spinning Target also.
